The Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation (FCEF) and the Federation of United Arab Emirates (UAE) Chambers of Commerce & Industry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), committing to the establishment of the UAE-Fiji Joint Business Council (UFJBC). 

The Chief Executive Officer of FCEF, Mr. Edward Bernard said that the establishment of the UFJBC will allow for the facilitation of private sector led initiatives relating to trade, investment and services in key industrial sectors between Fiji and UAE. 

The landmark signing was held at the World Governments Summit (WGS) in Dubai. Bearing witness to the MoU signing were the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, MSME and Communications Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, the UAE Minister of State for Entrepreneurship H.E Alia Al Mazroei and Fiji’s Ambassador to the UAE, H.E Faizal Koya. 

“The signing of this groundbreaking MOU heralds a new era of deeper collaboration between the UAE and Fiji through private sector collaboration. We hope to see more investment and trade opportunities develop out of the formation of the UFJBC in the years to come”, said Hon. Manoa Kamikamica. 

Singing the MoU on behalf of the UAE Chambers of Commerce & Industry, was their Secretary General Mr. Humaid Mohamed Ben Salem.

“The signing of the MoU and the establishment of the UFJBC will strengthen the economic ties between the two nations. This partnership will create new opportunities for Fijian businesses to expand their reach into the UAE market, while also attracting much-needed investment to Fiji,” stated Investment Fiji Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Kamal Chetty.

FCEF looks forward to working closely with the Government and Investment Fiji, through the UAE-Fiji Joint Business Council, to foster a mutually beneficial relationship that will drive growth and prosperity for both countries.

FCEF extends its appreciation to the Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, MSME and Communications, Investment Fiji, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Fiji Embassy in the UAE for their support in facilitating discussions and the signing of the MoU.
